The world is an interconnected web of life and what goes on in one part of the world effects the rest. Environmental pollution is a health obstacle that wreaks havoc on all living organisms on Earth. The Earth is ridden with toxins because humans can be wasteful, and have a tendency to use too many resources. Industrial pollution has gotten out of control, causing irreparable damage to the Earth and its ecosystems. Environmental pollution consists of five basic types of pollution, namely, air, water, soil, noise and light. I will discuss numerous types of environmental pollution or toxins, namely, chemicals, aerosols, pesticides, chlorine, mold, plastics, phlatalates, burned organic materials, heavy metals, vaccinations, and their affect on developing children and cognitive decline in humans. I will talk about ways to detox to lower toxic overload in the body and live a healthier life such as filtering water, reduce inflammation, sweat, and herbs for detox.
The toxins that are most harmful for the our environment are, PCB’s or polychlorinated biphenyls, pesticides, mold, fungus, pthlatalets, VOC’s or Volatile Organic Compounds, dioxins, asbestos, heavy metals, chloroform, and chlorine, which is according to Dr. Mercola. (Canwest news service, 2014.) PCB’s are dangerous and classified as “lipophilic toxicants that have been associated with hormonal disorders’ suppression of the immune system, reproductive disorders, cancer, and other diseases” (Marc Micozzi, 2011.) PCB’s are no longer produced and have been banned for years, but previous exposure can result in a lingering accumulation of the toxin in the fatty tissues of the body (Micozzi, 2011.) Dichloroethylene (DDE) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) appear to be a health risk despite the toxicants’ having been banned for decades (Robert E Herron andJohn B Fagan, 2002.)
PCB’s are Lipophilic toxicants or fat loving, according to Paul Haugen, 2014. Therefore, the less fat on your body the less toxins your body will store, so continue exercising and keeping a low weight to prevent toxin related disease. Unfortunately, toxins are hormone disruptors and this leads to obesity, so it is an uphill battle to fight fat accumulation through detoxing for good health. Also, eat organic foods to eliminate PCB’s which are commonly found in the pesticides that are heavily used in conventional and GMO foods. Due to environmental persistence and bioaccumulation of toxins in the body, we are constantly burdened by the thousands of chemicals in the environment.
This next chemical, chlorine, I hate to bring up because I enjoy a hot tub at the gym following a hard workout. Chlorine is an environmental pollutant that is heavily used to treat water. Symptoms of toxic exposure to chlorine are: sore throat, coughing, eye and skin irritation or burns, blue coloring of the skin, lung disease, and toxin buildup in the body (Camwest, 2013.) Chlorine poisoning can happen from a number of ways: it is in household cleaners, drinking water, and air pollution from living near an industry that uses chlorine. A hot shower is a way to be exposed to the vapors from chlorine, which is a gas. Chlorine can be avoided, by buying cleaning products without it, and using salt-water pools and hot tubs instead of chlorine. Paul Haugen recommends Bon Ami and Alices cleaning detergent as these alternative cleaning supplies can be much healthier and less toxic. Chlorine is bad for you but not as bad as other toxins, such as mold.
Mold and other Fungal Toxins, otherwise known as mycotoxins, can cause a range of health problems with exposure to only a small amount (Camwest 2013.) Mold exposure is known to cause cancer, heart disease, asthma, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes. Mold is present almost everywhere. There are deadly forms of mold such as black mold. Black mold is especially present in contaminated buildings, food such as peanuts, wheat, corn and alcoholic beverages. One in three people has an allergic reaction to mold, which can feel like a stomach ache after drinking a mold infested beer. Its possible that mold is present in the chemtrails, as part of geothermal engineering. ITs important to have a little self constraint and self respect, to love yourself you would not consume products that are harmful to your wellbeing. We are constantly bombarded with toxins in the environment, and another toxin we must live with is aerosol sprays.
A major contributor to environmental pollution is aerosol toxins such as bug sprays, chem-trails, and pesticides used in agriculture. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 60 percent of herbicides, 90 percent of fungicides and 30 percent of insecticides are known to be carcinogenic, this is a huge amount of cancer-causing pesticides in our food supply. Pesticides leach into the air and water supply, negatively affecting all ecosystems. Pesticide residues have been detected in 50 per cent to 95 per cent of U.S. foods (Canwest news service.) More sprays are used for conventional foods than organic foods, so we do have a choice as to what industry we support.
Pesticides that are heavily used in conventional and genetically modified organism agricultural practices have been attributed to the many various health issues present in modern day civilization; such as Cancer, Parkinson’s disease, obesity, inflammation, miscarriage, nerve damage, birth defects, and blocking the absorption of food nutrients (Canwest, 2014.) There is nothing worse than food poisoning, and food is meant to nourish our bodies so we can thrive. As of now, most foods are poisoning us. It is possible to eat organic and to clean food well to minimize exposure to these chemicals. Not only are toxins in the food we eat, but the products we cook and eat our food from, also the body absorbs what we put on our skin.
Phthalates are a toxic chemical that are easily avoidable, just don’t buy products with it, and especially don’t put it on your skin! These chemicals are used to lengthen the life of fragrances and soften plastics (Canwest, 2014.) Any product that is pliable and soft feeling might have phthalates in it. So stick with products with the least amount of ingredients, I recommend coconut oil and essential oils for many things. Minimize exposure to perfumes, plastic wrap, plastic bottles, conventional lotions, and plastic food storage containers. These products contain phthalates, and toxins are leached into the food and body this way. It is best to buy whole foods at the market while using reusable cloth bags and by using natural skin care products for moisturizer. Phthalates and many toxins like it are endocrine disruptors, these are harmful especially for the developing child (Canwest, 2014.) For children have rapidly dividing cells and are at higher risk for health problems (Haugen, 2014.) It is recommended by dermatologist to “Use zinc or titanium-based products, free from fragrance, para-aminobenzoic acid, parabens, bisphenol A, phthalates and other harmful substances,” (Michael Taylor, 2014.)
Most all toxins end up in the air one way, or another, usually from being burned or sprayed. Burning plastics, wood, fossil fuels, cigarettes, etc. Smoking is a big health concern, for smoke causes inflammation in the body, and inflammation causes disease. “Chronic inflammation contributes to everything from achy joints to asthma to irritable bowel disease to diabetes to heart disease to migraines to skin rashes, and the list goes,” (Cassie Bjork, 2014.)
Toxins are present in the air, and it may be the worst form of pollution for it is not easily avoided. Air pollution is thought to be the cause of global warming and the melting of ice glaciers. Greenhouse gases are emitted creating a substantial cooling effect, from the excess particulate matter in the atmosphere, which blocks sunlight (Paul Haugen, 2014.)
Air pollution seems to be worse near industrialized cities, where smog is a problem. Most toxins are carcinogenic to health. To be carcinogenic means to cause cancer and other diseases in the body. Outdoor air pollution is classified as carcinogenic to humans (Gaudin, Nicolas, 2013.) We are living in a time of environmental toxicity. “We now know that outdoor air pollution is not only a major risk to health in general, but also a leading environmental cause of cancer deaths.” (Gaudin, 2013.) Air is polluted by burning of fossil fuels, use of chemical cleaners and solvents, and pesticides in food, these are just a few. There are many particulates in the air that may be contributing to the decline of our health as a wholesome of these substances are from the following: diesel engine exhaust, solvents, metals, dusts, radon, pesticides, and much more. The exposure to these substances increase the risk of lung cancer significantly (Gaudin, 2013.)
Fortunately, the Clean Air Act has been around the past 40 years, and these programs have made great changes to the environment, but many fossil fuel power plants, boilers, and cement plants continue to treat our skies like sewers (Natural resources and defense council, 2014.) “From soot to toxic heavy metals, dirty coal and fossil fuel smoke stacks that emit vast quantities of dangerous pollutants are well known to cause disease and death” (Natural Resources and Defense Council, 2014.) Although cars have improved, there are more of them and the Earth just can’t keep up with detoxing itself. Too many people continue to smoke cigarettes, too much dirty energy production and industry, and too many cars burning fossil fuels on the roads are contributing to environmental pollution accumulation and showing up as smog, lung cancer, and other health-related problems, such as cognitive decline.
A common problem associated with toxins and pollution in the environment is cognitive decline (Jianghong Liu, Ph.D. and Gary Lewis, February 2012.) There are many toxins in the environment that may influence our capacity to think clearly. A number of toxins that are affecting our cognitive abilities are lead, mercury, burned fossil fuels, air pollution, organic compounds, polychlorinated biphenyls, and dioxins (Liu and Lewis, 2012.) Toxins like these cause inflammation to the body and brain, thus causing cognitive decline. Toxins and environmental pollution affect every living thing on Earth, especially developing fetuses.
Toxins are also known as teratogens, which cause problems for women and their children (NRDC.) “Each year in the United States, more than 300,000 newborns may be overexposed to mercury in utero, increasing their risk of neuro-developmental effects” (NRDC.) The problems associated with cognitive decline are tremendous. Children are most at risk for they have rapidly dividing cells putting them at higher risk, also toxins work synergistically and in a muliplicative way to foster disease or disorder for the rest of their lives according to Haugen, P. 2014 (Personal Communication.) It is expensive and tedious to care for the people who are mentally incognizant or mentally handicapped. Autism is very common these days, and I’m sure environmental pollution and toxins have something to do with it. It is evident that Mercury and other teratogens are a likely cause of mental retardation and health problems in infants.
It’s important to drink plenty of purified spring water or filtered tap water, but do not drink from plastic bottled water which is highly acidic on the PH spectrum. I recommend using a home made water filtration system with carbon or ceramic filters, and it’s highly necessary to use a fluoride filter, for the fluoride in the water calcifies the pineal gland, which could potentially inhibit your psychic and intuitive abilities. Water can be very detoxifying. Don’t drink just any water because water is a source of environmental pollution and toxicity for the body. There are many pollutants in water we must avoid, such as fluoride, chlorine, synthetic non biodegradable and pharmaceutical particulate matter. “Individuals and families have many opportunities to reduce or eliminate chemical exposures. For example, filtering home tap water or well water can decrease exposure to numerous known or suspected carcinogens or endocrine-disrupting chemicals.” (Justin Regnier, 2014.) Detox to keep the body from experiencing lung disease, brain dysfunction, and toxic overload. The effects of pollution on brain health are difficult to quantify so its best to prevent poor health by living as healthy as possible.
Inflammation from toxins in our diets and in the environment is a huge contributor to poor health. All systems of life are at risk due to the harmful substances emit into the environment on a daily basis. These are all the ways inflammation becomes a problem for humans : stress, smoking, over exercise, poorly controlled diabetes, sugar, trans fats, processed vegetable oils (canola, soybean, corn, safflower, sunflower, etc), artificial sweeteners, refined carbohydrates (bread, pasta, cereal, crackers and of course, cookies, muffins and bagels), excessive alcohol consumption, food sensitivities, antibiotics in conventionally raised meat, and lack of sleep. (Bjork, 2014.)
Health coach and nutritionist, Cassie Bjork says, and that inflammation affects tissues deep down and halts weight loss, and to fix the root problems that lead to inflammation , and the body will naturally lose weight. We can prevent the consumption of many toxins and reduce chances of inflammation by changing our personal habits and lifestyle choices. Once you take care of inflammation in the body, your body will be freed up to work efficiently, and your health will dramatically improve, with less fat, more energy, and happier mood.
Toxins and environmental pollutants are not going away anytime soon. Toxins and chemicals in the environment are something we must deal with every day. It’s important to take necessary precautions when it comes to our health and wellbeing. When immune function is down, we are susceptible to attacks by foreign invaders, such as virus. It is important to detox regularly with practices such as Ayurveda Panchakarma to relieve the toxic burden, and live a healthier life (Micozzi, 2011.)
There are many ways to detox and prevent illness. I practice pranayama, Sanskrit for breath work that expels carbon dioxide at rapid rates. Yoga is known to slow the metabolism down, so you require less food. Minimizing food intake saves money and its good for your body to rest and repair itself without having to digest food constantly. I love to go on a fast and eat nothing but tea, chocolate, and coconuts for a few days at a time up to ten days. There is also a fast called the master cleanse which you drink water with cayenne, maple syrup, and lemon. So, I do daily yoga, eat only whole organic foods, and do not use cellphones because of the increased radiation and electromagnetic field exposure. I unplug my appliances and electric cords each night before sleep, and it saves energy and protects my health from harmful and dirty electricity frequencies.
Great ways to detox are: colon hydrotherapy, dry skin brushing, tongue scraping, oil pulling, juicing, eating vegan diet, and cutting back on toxic food substances like alcohol. I take supplements, minerals, and herbs to speed up the detox process. I also enjoy a liver flush once per year. I drink chlorella and cilantro together, drink zeolite or bentonite, drink magnesium and vitamin c powders, turmeric, ginger, and intermittent fasting to detox. I highly recommend taking a sauna and steam bath for the skin eliminates many toxins when you sweat. I recommend apple cider vinegar or warm lemon water in the morning to detox first thing. When you fast, the energy it normally takes to digest food can be used for a deep internal cleanse. Each cell will purge toxins, excrete through skin, breath, stool, and making you feel lighter and better health. With all the ways to detox, we can prevent disease and feel much happier. Turmeric is a miracle herb. People in India consume turmeric on a regular basis and are much healthier because of it. Turmeric is known to destroy multi-drug resistant cancer, destroy cancer stem cells (arguably, the root of all cancer), protect against radiation induced damage, reduce unhealthy levels of inflammation, protect against heavy metal toxicity, prevent and reverse Alzheimer’s disease associated pathologies ( Sayer, Ji, 2007.) So, drink turmeric everyday for cancer causing inflammation and heavy metal toxicity prevention.
Yoga detoxes you, thanks to the increased amount of antioxidants in the body, and ability to stay calm under stress. Stress may be the greatest cause of disease, so to do yoga everyday you are preventing disease. Many yoga poses twist and rinse toxins from the soft tissues and spinal cord, which prolong your life thanks to the detoxifying process. Each deep breath I take I expel carbon dioxide, and allowing oxygen to replenish the body. Yogi’s have better health overall, while looking and feeling young, limber, and vibrant. Say a mantra to yourself, “I am light, I am divine, nothing can harm me.” Yoga moves energy in the body, when the energy is flowing freely you are not holding onto negative energy, and you create space in the body for light and love to enter. Yoga cultivates the life force, prana, or chi energy, also known as shakti.
Toxins and pollution in the environment are coming to the forefront socially and politically. Research has discovered that pollution is a significant and complex problem that affects infants, children, adults, and seniors, and more research has discovered the health implications from pollution. More needs to be done in the research and development field so public health officials can implement pollution awareness. Better to be safe than sorry. People will benefit from education and understanding of how important health awareness is, and to minimize toxic exposure.People will benefit from speaking with a health coach, yoga teacher, or nutritionist about ways to detox and live their best life possible.
I think its time to take responsibility of the health of the planet, rather than let future generations take care of the problems we create because by then it may be too late. The Gods will purify the planet, and we would have to start anew. The planet is a living organism and should be treated that way, or else it may just die. As all species die, we can die of extinction just like anything else die; from too many changes in the environment. Since humans manipulate the Earth to such an extreme extent, the human species and the Earth can very well parish whether we like it or not. So live each day as if it were your last, present at the moment and full of life. There’s always hope. Take your health into your own hands. You are responsible for your body none else.
